A practical path from dimensions and test prints to mounting the finished box.
1. Measure what you want to store
Measure the item's maximum width, depth, and height, then add enough clearance to remove it comfortably. Use the displayed inside dimensions and do not confuse them with the outside size. Deeper boxes put more force on the board and hooks, so begin with light items.
2. Print the fit gauge first
SKÅDIS boards, surface coatings, and printer extrusion vary. Print the 12-piece gauge combining 0.3, 0.5, 0.65, and 0.7 mm side clearance with 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6 mm board-thickness clearance. The default 3.7 mm hook width uses 0.65 mm side clearance. Choose a combination that inserts without force and does not lift out easily. Never force a tight hook into the board.
3. Choose material and wall thickness
The default is PLA for predictable dimensions. The hook is 3.7 mm wide and keeps a 4.8 mm section vertically and through its depth around a 90° bend with a 2.4 mm radius. Standard settings use 1.6 mm side and front walls, a 4.0 mm back, and five perimeters. The full-thickness hook joins directly into the back and widens downward to spread load without protruding upward or into the storage area. Extra back thickness increases outside depth without reducing inside dimensions. Increase the back thickness for tall, heavy, or over-100 mm-deep boxes.
4. Check dividers and shape options
Use the top view to check the real size of each compartment. The 3D hook preview and STL use the same section coordinates. Confirm that cable notches and drain holes do not interfere with stored items or dividers. Rounded corners and a bottom chamfer cannot be enabled at the same time.
5. Check print orientation
Normally place the box floor on the build plate. Support is required beneath the hooks. Compare the preview's maximum envelope with your printer settings and use the split STL when it does not fit. Dry-fit the joint before fixing it with a method suitable for your material.
6. Test low and light
Support the bottom while gradually adding weight, and inspect the hooks, back panel, and board for deformation. Do not use overhead, for breakables, blades, chemicals, food, or anything involving the safety of people or animals.
